Visual studio vs Visual Studio Code, whats the difference ?

Visual studio and Visual studio code, what’s the difference ?

Check it out as a Video

Visual studio, the purple one, is an IDE, which stands for “Integrated Development Environment”.

You get the full package as default with advanced debugging, compiler and build tools, testing tools, database tools and many more. Extensions can also be added.

It’s mainly used to write C#, .NET and C++ for applications and games coupled with Unity or Unreal engine.

On the other hand, Visual studio code, the blue one, is a text editor just like notepad.

It’s strength comes from the fact that you can customize pretty much anything and add as much extensions as you like, ranging from language support, themes, debugging tools, snippets, formatters and many more.

It’s mainly used for coding but can be used for pretty much anything.

I used it to write my resume using LaTeX ( Miktex ) for example.

Hope this helps, see ya!
